"Using a Precision-Metered Injection System to Minimize Dental Injection Anxiety"
The Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, Feb. 1998, pp. 137-147.
This article helps increase doctors' awareness of the prevalence of injection anxiety and explains the design limitations of the standard hypodermic syringe. Dr. Krochak was a member of the research and development team for a virtually painless computer-assisted injection device to administer local anesthetics. This paper describes the benefits of this new precision-metered injection system.
The article also reviews the results of a study completed as part of the development of this system. In the study, 90% of dental patients reported being at least mildly anxious about receiving dental injections. Surveys were administered to quantify the patient's fears of dental injections and to measure the desensitization effects of using the injection system. According to this study, fear levels were reduced by 75-80% using the new technology. |
